Well, there is another thing that comes in the path. And, that is about the Clipping Path that we often use for product isolation. The path is just the previous part of the selection in the procedure of background removal or photo subject isolation.

To reveal the path, you need to use Alt/Option for Win/MAC and click on the path. And, to release the path, press Ctrl/Command+Enter for Win/MAC for selection and Ctrl/Command+D for Win/MAC to deselect.

Way 1: Deselecting From Photoshop Menu

If we go for the core function of Photoshop to deselect a selection, this is the one. We are using an image with a green-colored Olive Oil bottle for this project. We are demonstrating a simple subject due to the prime objective where complex subjects are not necessary.

As we are going to deselect, the image is ready with a selection. We have done that before cause you already know how to make a selection. So, go to the Photoshop menu ‘Select’ and choose ‘Deselect’ from the drop-down menu. As simple as that.

Though we are not going into detail, you know the drill. It is necessary to do the editing before deselecting an area. Otherwise, it may become difficult to make the exact selection once again. Suppose you have selected all the layers and need to deselect them all. So, click on the empty area in the layers panel (marked by an orange dot) and be done. Or, you may need to deselect a few layers like ‘Layer 1’ and ‘Layer 1 copy 2’.

Press and hold Ctrl/Command for Win/MAC and left-mouse-click on the layers one by one. You can see marked in yellow in the above image for the layers that are deselected. Also, you can reselect deselected layer by the same process again.

Exactly the opposite operation of select is ‘Deselect’. The option is one of the most important steps you may need to use in almost every photo editing. Well, there is a specific term and that is subject isolation from a photo. Also, sometimes, you may need to select and deselect objects to do editing in limited areas.
